Hi All,

I am wanting to model an old style leather football and haven't a clue where to start. There are plenty of modern style football tutorials around but I can't find any info or tuts on the older style of ball.

Something like this...

If anyone could offer some advice on even a starting point I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,
Simon

When I look at that ball I see a cube that has been turned into a sub-patch and then each face has been divided into 3 equal segments...'ave a go, get messy and enjoy yourself :)

Thats a great link! I didn't completely read it, but the Modify > Transform > Spherize option is pretty awesome. It kinda makes me wonder what more gems are hidden under those 'More' buttons.

I hope you don't mind me posting my stuff in your thread Simon-S, but I had to try this for myself. All the tricks are pretty much explained in the pdf, but here's a short summary. Create an cube with 3 segments on each side, center it and use Spherize. Then smooth-shift to create those separate pieces and you're pretty much done. :)

Here's my version. I also added the model to the free speedmodel library (http://newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1064402#post1064402)
