Speed Modeling Challenge #96 - Nurnies, Greebles, Wiggets

*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.
3. LightWave should be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

*************************************************

This week's topic: Nurnies, Greebles, Wiggets
To quote from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greeble)

A greeble or nurnie is a small piece of detailing added to break up the surface of an object to add visual interest to a surface or object, particularly in movie special effects. They serve no real purpose other than to add complexity to the object, and cause the flow of the eye over the surface of the object to be interrupted, usually giving the impression of increased size. It is essentially the small detailed technical part of a larger object. The detail can be made from geometric primitives, including cylinders, cubes, and rectangles, combined to create intricate, but meaningless, surface detail. Greebles are commonly found on models or drawings of fictional spacecraft in science fiction.

It doesn't have to be scifi - cobblestones, vents, grates, buttons, switches, door panels all could be called surface detailing.
Time Limit - 60 minutes

Deadline - Wednesday 22 September 2010, 2200 GMT

Psshh... thats cheating =)
Though, it's a good chance to see what creativity can do with it.

Have fun QuadPanelers :D

Interesting topic, even without quadpanels.

I guess LWCad could be used too to make bricks, shelves, ...

I just though I would add a quick model for if anyone wants something to build their nurnies on.

Just my kind of challenge. Sadly 0 time to do anything before Tues night, at least no more firefighting (knock on wood). But that gives me Tues/Wends muhahahaha.

Although using Quadpanels is probably not the intent, it would be a good tool for applying said nurnies once you've finished modeling them. :)

Some plugins that might help with the task beside QP:

(thanks again to these plugin devolopers)
Greeble Script - http://earthwormjim.free.fr/lscript/modeler/greeble/index.html
Ultimate Clone - http://www.mikegreen.name/Lscripts.html#Ultimate_Clone

Long time since I played.

This was just to shake off the cobwebs. 15 minutes or so modeling, which included starting over again. I plan to enter again with much more dedication.

A NACA scoop. Every aircraft and race car needs a few.

Unfortunately my health has taken a bit of a nosedive in the last couple of days.
So if there is no sign of me picking a winner on Wednesday feel free to pick one between yourselves. I`ll be back at some point, hopefully sooner than that though :)

It's sad to see great LW artists so sick. Take care of yourselves guys, we all need you in here.

I'm sure we all can wait till you're better for chosing the winner. Probiner has to start the next challenge anyhow, so you'll have about a week more to get better Richard.

Glad to know Richard.

I can start a new thread or you start or... hun?
I just want to keep this rolling and not to be in the way :D

That's pretty cool Richard. Very similar to what I was doing before Modeler decided to crap out on me. I've never had Modeler crash doing simple modeling before so I didn't bother saving. It's gone. I was putting some N&G's on the old "space scooter" model. I think it was from a tutorial from a long time ago.

R.Feeney

@probiner you can start a new thread when ever you are ready.

I`ll try to get back later to pick this weeks winner

Sorry about the delay guys.
Nangleator is the winner this week.

There was a bit of a lack of wireframes this week, it makes it harder to get a good look at just the modeling when its just a render.

Nangleator
09-24-2010, 12:46 PM
Geez *sheepishly*

I feel like I didn't even have a real entry. But thanks, Richard!

I'll see if I can come up with a winning idea for #98, for next Wednesday...

Nangleator
09-24-2010, 01:09 PM
Just mulling some ideas over. I'll have more later...

Badger, Mushroom, Snake (inspired by this (http://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com/))

In the Navy... (from all time periods)

Scientific Principles (illustrate something, as if for NOVA)

Within Sight (strangest or most interesting object visible from your chair)

Novel Execution (invent a new machine for capital punishment... the more horrific the better)

COBRASoft

Novel Execution should be deadly fun :D.

Congrats!
