Dear Friends:

This is my take on the cartoon character challenge.
A simple character I created in modeler.

rednova, that certainly is a character. It's been 13 years since I made my first character in LW, so I want to encourage you to keep it up!

The single-most important thing about character modeling, aside from visual appeal, is whether is has been modeled to be animatable.

This means that you have not used more polygons than necessary when you create the body to enable the character to deform correctly when its head, limbs, and torso move around.

Polygonal Topology is also important. This is a fancy way of saying, "How the polygons are laid out on the surface of the model so that there is a flow to them - loops; and, whether the polygons are primarily four-sided, with three-sided polys placed in the right places (if at all), to make or avoid pinched surfaces.

Hi RedNova,

I have a video on YouTube that covers polyflow (A.K.A. Topology).. May help you.
