As far as i know, no, no FFD/Lattice deformer in Layout, not sure about plugins.

Maybe FI's DeformFollower can be rigged to do some sort of lattice deformer, but you'll have to work your way around a lot of limitations (for example, making your cage a soft body, and animating the lattice points with the soft body vertex edit tool, though without translate and rotate gizmos and clusters it will be a pain in the arse, if it is possible at all what i'm describing.)

I know there`s a plugin BoneLatticeGN that makes lattices in lw.
But yeah native lw deformer would be nice. I used that ffd in max to do a flat tire and lava flow before and worked great.

Checked my lw plugin folder. Its made by faulknermano.
It cant do the second part of the video where a deformer was used not as a modifier but as object binder, which was useful for me making flat tires and lava flow :D.

in my workplace, I'm the only one using lightwave. everybody else uses max or xsi. And we don't have core yet, I have no idea if core does this, but my boss has his own politic for using latest versions in production. They have max 2011 and are still using 2008, so for lightwave we think that core isn't very good to use now. We do a lot of stuff in a time scale of 2/3 days so core isn't in our plans now.
Max has a great lattice tool, and now I'm doing a project that I could use something like that, and they started joking with me because lightwave doesn't have it.

tx for the help

LW does have a spline deforming tool in layout. That's probably to closest thing to Max's FFD's. Though it's not that user friendly (edit keys are only in graph editor) and its only a line with nodes deformers.

yeah, sounds like a shame lightwave doesn't have it yet :)

FIS Deform sounds interesting, in alternative to Metalink that is a shame too.

LW Native SPLINE DEFORM is another shame, usefull for nothing except a snake.

Use the Shift Spline transform, available on my web page, it's so much better than the native version. I've put a youtube video up of it in action:

Thanks for the tute. I've never used this plug before, but it looks fairly useful.
