These are poor areas in lightwave where Autodesk have advanced a lot:

Cool realtime dynamics in Maya
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYCgtoxgLXY&feature=channel

Amazing mocap Editing in Motion Builder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH6-szX1xFk&p=F5E5998FF95AEBD2&playnext=1&index=1

Hope to see Bullet used this way in LW 10 and addition of better mocap retargeting/editing tools and also animation layers soon.

that stuff makes me cringe - because I want to do that

I am sure that that exemple with the beeīs back can be cought by CORE, because MG Springythingy alredy do it pretty easy and realtime on old versions of lightwave (the problem is that it cannot be baked).

BTW I am still impressed with that video and I want so much to see videos like that inside CORE and/or Lightwave Layout!

Is really good to read that you posted some c4d exemples, great exemples thought!

Its better to know that it is the same basis of COREīs dynamics technology

In other words.. we got the power!

Hoooly crap....

i've never seen that demo video before... it's quite amazing. If we got those things in CORE in the next 5 years I'd be surprised if I'm honest. The fluid sim is great, in real time too... the dress and the editing of it is simply perfect... they've done a lot in maya since I last looked. How come Autodesk aren't adding anything good to 3ds max then? I know it's on the verge of a re-write, but it's falling behind right now, and a chance for CORE to catch up. They haven't really begun, and their forecast is around 5 years... hopefully CORE can beat them to it?

a chance for CORE to catch up? really? Maybe max it's falling behind from Maya and Softimage, nevertheless LW is falling waaaaaaaay behind even for 3dsmax (sadly). My worries is that when Core finally release, Xcalibur will be strong enough to left LW behind once again, and will be a never ending story.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to see Core beat the crap out of max! and be right behind maya in a close (very close) race.

Those thinking that Maya is getting above MAX or Softimage getting above MAX clearly canīt see the truth in front of their eyes, or have never asked anything from Autodesk.

Letīs try this again, just for the record:
Autodesk supports MAX (well, if support is an acceptable word for what Autodesk offers).
Autodesk considers MAX his tool for 3D.
Autodesk is buying some other stuff to bolt more stuff into MAX and get sure his 3d package (MAX) works fine with other stuff.
Autodesk will eventually create a new MAX (maybe with some other name) with stuff from MAX and stuff they got from other packages for MAX.
If you call Autodesk for anything, they always add MAX licenses into any offer.
If you purchase licenses from different packages included but not limited to MAX, the just send the MAX licenses, and much later on, if you insist they send you the licenses for the "other" 3D software.

The marketing machine might try to blur this facts, with cool n-named tech added to Maya or ICE-flavoured stuff for Softimage (all of which was there already way before Autodesk bought them), but the truth keeps on being the same.

Also, why donīt you hear Mr.Ridīs advice when he tells you NOT to think tech demos are production-valid techniques?...Itīs one thing watching a cool cloth bag moving in real time, and a totally different experience having your hi-res character using dynamic cloth deformations in a production environment,....

I have a good friend whoīs main task at the studio consists on filtering Mayaīs n-cloth jello-like simulations through Houdini so that they get something useable.
I donīt pretend n-cloth to be a bad cloth simulation system...but production stuff is never that easy.

BTW, while we talk our render farm is finishing the render on a commercial that Maya people from other studio couldnīt render with enough quality in three times the time we had. Geeez, howīs that possible!!?? They got N-cloth!! ....
...*Homer voice* By the way, Iīm being sarcastic!!

In many areas lightwave may be falling waaaay behined... but they keep bringing out these useless features. Have you even tried to use the Quicksilver renderer in 3ds max?

It is an ABSOLUTE joke! I can't see any need for it, and i feel sorry for the people who must have spent time coding it, and implementing it. It's slow as arse, and not a patch on f-prime that we've had for years, or the VPR in LW10... i'm just saying that if 3ds max keeps getting updated this slowly, then LW CORE could have a chance of catching up... (keeping my fingers crossed)! :)

I think MAX is the Tool that Autodesk wants to promote.

In my view Max is a powerfull tool that have the weakest interface and usability of all 3D packages I know. Blender with that terrible interface is still better than Max.

Well, Lightwave has been DEAD for a long time, but 9.0 -> 9.6 cicle and Core looks like the return of a Titan. Too much work to be done anyway! Cinema 4D is more updated than Lightwave.

Anyway, it seems these tools I've shown are not the Newtek focus. Or is it?
