View Full Version : Nodal displacement

I'm sure I've done this one before but for the life of me I can't remember how.

I want to displace an object in the 'Y' direction only, preferably using the Ripples procedural or something that will give me a wavy effect.

I can get it to displace in all directions but I don't want that :grumpy:

multiply your displacement value/vector x and z values with 0, or any another setup that keeps the original x and y normal data, that should work

I'm not too sure what you mean but I will take a look when I've finished rendering.

How does your node setup look like, print screen?

add a spot info node

add a math/vector/scale node

Feed the normal output from the spot info node into the scale/vector input.

use add ripple procedural texture and feed that into the scale/scale input

open your ripple node texture and lower the layer opacity and make sure you use automatic sizing...that would give you some ripples for a starter, tweak them smaller as you like in size or wave settings.

There is no node setup any more. I was trying this yesterday and ended up giving up.

It was only this morning I thought of asking here.
