View Full Version : Normal Map Viewport question

I use Lightwave v 9.6 is there a way to display Normal Maps in realtime in the viewport inside of Modeler?

Nevermind, I guess it would be impossible in Modeler since you can't add any lights for it to show the depth. Anyone know if it's possible in Layout?

Activate the experimental features by pressing ctrl-shift-f1. Now if you put a Normal map into the Bump channel of your surface, it will display correctly (though not render correctly, because it's not a bump map. To do that, add a normal map node and connect it in the surface nodes editor, and disable the bump map channel normal map by setting it's strength to 0)

Thanks Dodgy, I will give that a try. I was almost under the impression it wouldn't work in Lightwave in realtime since it's openGL based and doesn't preview in DirectX. Hopefully your method works. Anyone know if Lightwave 10 will give you the option of using Direct X for viewports instead of OGL?
