It would be really nice if LW at version 10 finally allowed us to make selections that include items of multiple types.

Ie. allows selecting nulls, bones, lights and cameras at the same time. With all that this implies.

This would not only make the overall workflow faster because you wouldn't have to switch modes all the time, but it would also allow some new workflows (to LW). In particular it would allow applying commands based on item selection order. For example, you could select some lights, then select a null last. Run a command, and it would parent those lights, to the last selected item, the null. This is by far the simplest and fastest way to set parenta, targets, etc, and it would be really nice if we had it in LW aswell (and not limited in anyway).

Instead of item selection modes, there would be item selection filters! Instead of toggling from one to the other, you'd activate or deactivate filters. Instead of excluding, you're including. You can allow selection of all item types, or just some. You can make a selection with multiple types, then filter those.

Obviously, if you have both objects and lights selected, editing object properties should edit those properties for all the objects in the selection, and editing light properties should edit those properties for all the lights in the selection. And editing common properties, such as motion properties, should edit those properties for all items, objects AND lights, in the selection.

+1 on this. I hate have to switch modes all the time. Really frustrating and time consuming.

Bump.

Personally I think this is one of the most important additions one could do as LW inability to select items of different types has proven to be a (workflow) killer of numerous common and intuitive tools one could develop. Basically it hinders further development and expansion of LWs general workflow and it's rigging and animation workflow in particular. LW could do things alot faster and smarter if this was removed, and 3rd parties could develop more tools.

This would break tools and commands that rely on particular mode..

The updated scene editor allows you to select different types of items together.

And having modes has it's advantages too - when you switch modes, your last item of that type is still selected - this saves me a lot of time.
