View Full Version : Lightwave \ 3D Coat and normal maps

I was just curious if anyone has had this issue.

I am loading an LWO file into 3DC, I then apply a greyscale bmp to the depth of the object.

This leaves me with some nice looking normals on the object.

I then export the object back to a new LWO file from 3DC. If I then open the normal map texture it created, the values are flipped.

Mountains are valleys and vice versa. If I reload that same texture file back into 3DC as depth then everything is also flipped as expected.

Obviously the render in lightwave is incorrect too. I think I am missing a setting somewhere, can anyone help?

Use the Maya setting for normal maps, the 3dsMax/LW one is incorrect for LW. Andrew's got to change that, I'll give him a poke.
