View Full Version : just got lightwave

YAY! I just got lightwave...not the CORE one... but still...

Now I can continue to dive into the world of LW (the demo stopped me in my tracks because it ran out)

I've been looking for along time for a program that I could use for game design and rendering.

I also use Blender, but I still wanted something else.

The reason I picked lightwave is not simply because it was used in Avatar or because people say it's good and less expensive than 3DS, but because Newtek cared enough to put TONS of really useful videos on the site so I could get working right out of the demo. With other software, I'm stuck fumbling around and hunting for videos. The way I see it, if I'm going to spend tons of money on a piece of software, they could at least provide a really nice walkthrough of it... unlike 3DS...

I just wanted to thank them for that and also say hello.

Ok well this was a semi-uesless post... but just wanted to officially say hi to everyone and let people know I'm now part of the community.

Are you sure you dont' have CORE too? If you just bought a license, that should include a CORE membership.

And welcome.

Welcome!

Don't take the forums to seriously, we are a moody bunch :)

.. keep in mind a cheap upgrade to core is available for a limited time .. look into it (it carries on into future releases in terms of costs)

Welcome.

As Giger said, you should have access to the core builds as a new member. I haven't signed up to HC but what I've seen and heard seems very worth exploring if you have the opportunity.

There's a great community here, we'll help as much as we can, can I just ask that you search the forums before posting a question as most things have already been covered to a certain degree...we don't bite (much) though so don't be afraid to ask anything.

A couple of great resources are Flay (http://www.flay.com/) for plugins (loads, free + commercial) and tutorials, Scott's LW tutorial links (http://www.members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/Main_Menu.htm) and Larry's training (http://www.splinegod.com/store.html). Larry does some great training material and has been a huge asset to the LW community, this thread will hopefully give you an incentive to check out his videos: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111131

Thanks.

I'm new here, but not to forums. I'll make sure to try and search before asking a question.

As for CORE, I don't know if I'm part of it or not. I know I can upgarde though. The reason I say that is because I bought it from a reseller so I don't know if that counts.

I'd LOVE to get into CORE, but "cheap" is point in perspective.. 495 is a decent price, but I'm just a college student and the job I have now is ending pretty soon (internship) so I'm afraid I'll have to forgo it. :\ Oh well, I'll just have fun with 9 for now.

Thanks for all the useful links.

Yes, the main thing I love about Lightwave also is the wealth of documentation that is available for it.

Before all those great videos became available, I depended on the Inside Lightwave series of books!

I still hoping one comes out for v10 as well - we'll just have to wait and see.

Enjoy!

Welcome aboard! You'll find this community very helpful, I know I did when first starting.

One tip right off the bat though (which is a bit of an in-joke as we all never knew how to do this at the beginning!)

After adding an Envelope to something (when the 'E' to the right of something is highlighted) to remove it, hold the 'Shift' key down and left click the 'E' again!

:)

Thanks.

As for the shift E... I'm not sure why he mentioned it... maybe it has something to do with a certain person... in a sertain video... at a sertain large event taht took place a week or so ago?... hmmmmmmm?.... NAH, I'm sure it was just a useful tip from nowhere. Thanks.

Dreamcube017, welcome to the forums and LightWave 3D. Do not hesitate to ask questions about pretty much anything. :)

Cool thanks everyone. Ah well I've just registered and I don't have LW10 (I don't see it in my downloads) so oh well to that. But I'm still happy and that VIPER thing in 9 will have to do for the time being.

... hmm... sadly I still can't use it because I don't have a dongle with me... I guess I wait for that in the mail or something... darn... Well there goes m y fun for the evening.

LW10 is only avaliable from within the HC-forums. HC-Forums are located at the bottom of the main forum page.

If you have access to HC-forums, this link should take you to the announcementpage within HC and also list the downloadlinks for 10:

http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110931

If the link doesn't work, you have to contact customer support and ask them for a step by step description on how you gain access to HC-forums.

Good luck!

Alright. Thanks, It didn't work.

I'll give them a call tomorrow... or today rather and ask them if I'm eligable.

You don't automatically get forum access. The Core serial should (normally) be listed in your registrations, and then you use that serial and register for hardcore access (using the product registration form/page), where you will be asked to input your forum user name. Otherwise they wouldn't know which user name to unlock the forums for.

All this assuming that it still worked liked it used to.

Ah thanks.

Well I couldn't talk to NT yet, but it seems that if you buy lightwave 9.x then you get into Core. Well seeing as I got it from a reseller, I'm still not entirely sure, but I didn't see anything that said that would make you uneligable. Hmm... I'll still call and ask.

And thanks for all the useful links.

Talk to Newtek suport because I am think the fact that you got it from a reseller has nothing to do with not having CORE.
I hope to see you in the Hardcore forums!
