Okay, I have been following the lightwave tutorial for creating a landscape found here -

http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/tutorials/surface/texturing/texturing_landscape.html

Why is it that if I follow this tutorial bit for bit, when I apply my procedural texture to my subdivided plain, it has no where near as much detail as the one in the tutorial?!

is it me that's at fault or is it the tutorial cos I am following it bit for bit.

cheers

Did you try to:

- In the properties of your plane, increase the Subpatch level(s) to something high, like 64 or more (try 128)

- Again in the properties of your plane, set Subidivision Order to First

- Play with the settings of your displacement map texture, specially Small Power and Contrast

- Add another layer on top of the actual one in displacement map texture, set it to 'Crumple', give it a small size and a high Small power (like 15 or 20) and set the layer opacity to 50%
