newtek should provide us with this kind of distributed render functionality (and the controlling server...)

http://corefarm.org/

newtek users could share their workstations and generate "the newtek cloud"

it would be a great selling point and a great community motivator

it shouldn't be that hard to do...

it was silly and juvenile even by my very low standards.

newtek cloud is a nice idea

I've had this thought for a while now myself, a NewTek managed (very cheap) community render farm, but people offering their own machines into the mix would be fun.

The big issue is content security.

No one panic on this subject.
There is a secret project in the works at http://www.liberty3d.com

More information will be coming soon. But the end is closer than you think.

I cannot get into any further details at this time. But everything should be in place on August 29th, 2010. Unconventional Weapons will be used :)

For commercial projects, where you need speed, there are enough renderfarms out there.

My suggestion some times ago are a inexpensive (!) way to support the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud Program. The problem is at the moment that you need a Linux renderer, so i hope CORE support this as the easy way like Houdini today.

$1.99 per machine per hour on a 64-bit machine with 7.5 GB of RAM
