Yep, I posted this a while ago but I still think it was a good read. His interview on fxguide was good.

I assume Cameron has never responded?

Not that I'm aware of... Why respond when you're making hundreds of millions of dollars... ;)

I hadn't seen this, but it is well said and highly relevant.

But sadly, you can extend this argument into almost any field where cgi is wanted or desired. We spend alot of time almost educating potential clients as to what it is, what it involves and how much it ought to cost them, even to pay the artists regular money to survive on.

There is still that terrible assumption that if it involves computers, it can't be that hard and probably anyone can do it. That's not me being bitter, that's the kind of thing you hear all the time.

James Cameron is film nobility, royalty even - he might care, in fact many of them might care, but perhaps they balance that with what it might do to their reputations with the people who commission their ideas. After all, thousands of additional artists suddenly getting serious money and royalties is something they might not really want to face.

There's probably some unfortunate truths knocking about this problem, truths many would rather not have to face. Sticking up for NASA is universes away from sticking up for the armies that win your battles, where there are always keen new recruits eager to work on the latest and greatest.

Sad but true.
