View Full Version : Gamma in sigma2 material...

The sigma2 material node seems pretty arcane to me, but I can see that it has a lot of potential for what I'm wanting to do. I have scrubbed through the forums and the Newtek surfacing/texturing docs, and I can't find a good definition of what the gamma function represents. Can anyone explain it in a functional way?

IIRC, the gamma is to think of like a bias of the sss-effect. It has no equivalence in "reality", it's just there for exaggeration (since the effect apparently was too subtle in a non-compensated linear view). If you go for realism, just leave it alone and use a linear workflow instead.. ;)
