Hi all. Does anyone know where I could get a good video tutorial on how to model a football in full with laces, skin texture etc?
I found one from Newtek ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbQzwKa2IFY ), but it doesn't cover the skin texture or the laces and strip.

The seams are the hardest part... I don't have a video tutorial to offer to you. But I would go to the store and buy one as they are pretty cheap and take some photos of it for reference. Follow the tutorial that you found, and from there use knife to cut the polys where the stripes are and assign them a different surface. There are many ways that are more accurate, but this would be the easiest. If you are any good with UV's, that would be the way to go. And I would just box model the laces. For the skin texture, I would use either noise or crumple in the node editor (it's been a while since I've used either) and drive it into a bump or displacement node. Sorry if I missed something. I just started a new job on nights and my brain is a bit fuzzy this morning.

the tutorial you placed there with the link to youtube seems pretty good to me.
what are your difficulties?

As for texturing: There are no doubt better ways, but I had pretty good results by cutting and pasting just one quarter of the ball into another layer to create a UV map. The rotate it 45 degrees as shown.

Then create a morph map and have it active while you do the follinwing steps.

I am just looking for a full tutorial that includes the texturing, laces, logos etc. The one from William Vaughan concentrates primarily on the seams.

Hi. What do you mean by "Spacebar turns the puzzle piece"? Also your method of texturing seems unclear to me.

Was just trying to explain an easy way to create a map for the ball. After you have created the planar map using the steps I showed, you can delete the morph map, not the texture map, and then just use radial array to recreate the other 3 sides of the ball. The 3 sides you create in this fasion will also have the same uv mapping.

That's how I created the football to begin with. Was just showing one way of getting a uv map for it.

Hi. I have Willaims tut on the football, but I am looking for a full tutorial with seams, stripes, lighting etc.

I don't think you'll find something that goes "all the way". If you didn't find anything using Google, Yahoo, Bing or this forum, it's likely it doesn't exist.

You'll need to, like in a lot of other needs, projects and situations, combine information from several tutorials. Some tutorials might cover the basic shape. Others might deal with only the seams. Some might cover only the texture and surfacing, while a tutorial for rendering might be for something completely different like an aircraft.
