Ok boys...advice needed.

SetUP: Trying to model the atomic bonds between atoms of silicon to eventually show how doped transistors work.

Ok so I have your standard "Ball" representaion of the neculi and now I want to make a cross that can be bent along two axis to show a 3d bond of the 4 electrons to it's neighbor in the crystal.

I used two rods to make the cross...

Question 1: How do I merge the two rods into one cross (They are on the same layer)

Question 2: What is the best way to get a precise bend in the middle of the cross so each prong sticks out at different angles?

Question 3: In keeping with the idea that I want this to be correct mathematically, how do I "measure" the length of the newly distorted prong?

Please understand I've only been working with Lightwave for 1 1/2 months so please be detailed in answer

Thanks So Much :)

Can you post an image of what you're trying to build?

1. You could build the rods as a complete sub'd object instead of two individual cylinders.

2. When using the bend tool it'll show you the rotational value in the numeric panel.

3. Not sure about this one...there might be a plug-in that measures the length of selected edges.
