Making a Ring and Pinion Gear Set...

I have tried and tried to make a ring gear and pinion gear set....

Is there and way of doing it in LW ... ???

And I have tried alot of things...

Unless some one knows where I can download some decent meshes that I can rework...

Just guessing here, but can't you make a 2D base, extrude it, then Taper and finally rotate with falloff?

Yea it's not easy to make things fit. Here goes my quick and dirty attempt, that i hope that atleast gives you some ideas.

For the top i used Twist and Taper, for the base Vortex and Twist. But it's kind of hard to make the twists and tilts fit.
If you do the top first and then make a Boolean, you might have some nice info to make the base profile and then radial array.
Also you could try to model them has there where no twists and only after apply them, making the fitting math easier in the beggining and than just radial array the fix.

anyway, good luck :D

That's an interesting exercise in modeling.

Pretty good too!

Also a nice way to make things fit, could be by just modeling the top part and then:
-Make UV Cilindrical
-UV to Morph (this morph is tricky)
-Aplly Morph
-Make copys and attach so that instead of 10 teeth, the bas has like 40 teeth.
-Bend in Y axis. (some math needed here, to use the right Center, and i don't know it =S)
