I am making a character bust through a wall inside a cave. I made the ground a collision object so the rubble wont go through. I made the character a collision object, and the wall a hard dynamic. The problem is the ground is always in contact with the wall of the cave. When the dynamics start calculating, the wall immediatly sees the ground collision and the peices of the wall start moving around before the character crushes through.

Set 'Start by collision' in the Collision tab of the Hardfx object. If the wall isn't quite touching the floor, it'll only start moving when then object crashes through it.

Copy the ground geometry that does need to collide with the rubble and paste that into another layer. Make that layer the collision object.
Another thing you can do to speed things up a bit is parent collision spheres to your bones and size them to approximately match the volume of the character rather then make the character itself a collision object.
