Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a way to make a frosted glass texture. Does anyone know how to make that?

Cheers!

Frosted glass is just heavy refraction blur, caused by heavy surface perturbation, or particulates in the glass (which also causes SSS effects too). You might be able to muck about and make some textures to fake the effect, but they will break down in 3D. Just try cranking up the refraction blur ammount to very high numbers, and don't forget the back face of your glass! :D

You could also add a very grainy specular texture on in patches. if you're careful with any potential moire effects, you can get some nice sparkly sheens.

I crank refraction blur amount to 5000 but there´s no difference.

Does refraction blur work with Fprime?

I've attached a couple of images. Are they similar to the effect you are looking for?

Both show a piece of glass in front of a background image with refraction at two levels, first 1.5 and the second 2.0. In both cases there is an alpha map to increase the level from nothing in the bottom right corner to full effect in the top left.

you could also just drive a procedural through a remaping node (DB&W node tools) setting it 0>1 - 1.5>2 and plug it into the IOR.

Conventional shaders all work fine in Fprime, except for anything with a pre-process (some of the sss nodes) and some third party nodes too.
