View Full Version : The solution to keep free whith surface baking…?

This is just the begning of a test so don't expect to find
here a final solution.
Though this very first trying makes me think we could get good
results for rendering animations.

Our issue is this one : surface baking is a good way to render much faster
but it causes 2 issues…
- quite long to set correctly (depending on the scene)
- main trouble is due to the fact that baking surfaces reciving light
and shadows forbids you to change anything in the lighting of the final scene
and of course, to animate the lights…

I believe we could find solutions in baking surfaces in a scene with only GI
and no directional lights or shadows.

First pic (top-left) a rendering with ambient light and radiosity MC 3x9.
Other pics : I rendered the scene 3 times with different directions
of lights, with radio disabled and RT shadows enabled.
The images you see are compositings of the first pic and the DiffuseShading
buffer exported for each of the three lightings…

Of course this is not the "real" tip of baking and re-lighting in the scene
as I said before (had no time to do this now) but with such a result
only with PS compositing I'm sure we could get even better results
with the baking…

any comments and help appreciated ;)

That is a great idea let us know how it works out.
