Speed Modeling Challenge #77
*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.
3. LightWave should be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

**Please mention whether or not you would be happy to share the model.**

Lightwave Speed Modeling Group

This week's topic: "The Moon or bust!"

We're not talking sophisticated sci-fi ships here, but more grounded "Will it get there?" kind of thing.
You can do real life space vehicles or home made Wallace and Grommit style rockets, Jules Verne inspired Victoriana, Steampunk, whatever.

Time Limit - 90 minutes.

Deadline - Wednesday 31st March 2010, 2200 GMT

hmmmm this actually sounds like I have no idea what to do -___-
does it have to be man made or can it be alien (like from movies or similar) ?

does it have to be man made or can it be alien?

It doesn't have to be but I can't really imagine aliens having to deal with how to get to the moon.

Your imagination is the limit.

Hmmm... By the title of the challenge, a bosom would be an appropriate subject...

Hmmm... By the title of the challenge, a bosom would be an appropriate subject...

Well we usually have boobs mentioned at some point!

This was all done very quickly but I wanted to get something in. 25 minutes modelling.
My all time favourite spaceship, Tintin's rocket.

Hi all, this is my first entry for the speed modeling challenge. I've been meaning to get more into the Lightwave work lately and I thought this would be one of the best ways to do it.

So without further ado I present the Martian Maggot from Duck Dodgers original cartoon by Chuck Jones. It took about 40 minutes to model and 20 minutes to texture.

I hope to get better at using lightwave as my primary skills focus on motion graphics in After Effects.

Nice first entry TheDynamo. You'll be amazed how much taking part regularly can improve your 3d skills!

Hopper, what can I say? In the style of 95% of Evermotion posts...........
Wow!

Great idea oobievision!

There was a terrifying looking moment on UK TV last week when Brian Cox flew up to the atmosphere in an Electric Lightning. It goes along pretty normally after take off and then just screams upward vertically.

Hope he had clean pants with him.

Here it is. I wonder if there will be a speed animating challenge started sometime in the future. Thanks for the encouraging words guys!

Nice work Rob, but you actually uploaded the model :D

A wireframe render or a screen grab would do fine....but free models are always a good thing

Nice topic...mine wont reach the moon, but it might poke an eye out if you're not too careful :D

100 minutes modelling, of which...30 minutes were wasted redoing the design as it developed.

Nacky design and cool render Kuzey.

Looks like you could reach in and pick it up.

Inspired by Georges Melies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDtXO6ck60g...

Now to try and texture it convincingly...

I was planning on doing a speed model entry for each one, but life got in the way.

So here is my model of a Titan III E, used to send the satellites Voyager I and II into space.

The model took me about 70 minutes and then took me about 1.5 hours to light and texture.

I am pretty happy with it except for the odd geometry by the "United States" Probably a better way of going about it other then stenciling them on a round tube.

for some reason I hit the 60m limit (limit I tend to keep for myself) way sooner then I expected. This is my result thusfar.. not textured, but it then gets a kind of "V" look :)

Actually they do....if it's based on the Jules Verne novel, Around the Moon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_the_Moon)

I read most of it...but it became too repetitive towards the end.

Thanks Sampei...here's another one..hehe :hey:

Again...it took about 100 minutes to model. But the third one is within the time limit...I'll leave that for tomorrow.

More views on my blog.

40 minutes modelling time.

no problem, I really like that particular style !
so here's my entry, kinda embarassing ;D...I was inspired by "A Trip to the Moon" by the forefather of SFX George Meilies, I'm doing what's probably my last essay as student..done in roughly 70 minutes at 2am last night with a tiny thumbnail as ref, just a screengrab because I'm in the midst of rendering something heavy. When I looked at it this morning I had a really good laugh :'D

Now, the judging on this one should really be quite straightforward but all the entries are pretty cool.

Rudy and Sampei - I love the reference. That's exactly what I was thinking of. Good models too.
Chco2 - Very V like. I like the idea of a bus going up to space.
Wittywop - Great model. Looks like you planned it out well before you started.
Oobievision and the dynamo - very solid work guys.

But, for me its Kuzey's set that have really stood out. Funky design and loads of detail all subtly integrated. The second of his little rockets pips the post.
Congrats Kuzey!
