When copy/pasting layers from one layer to the other in modeler, the name of the layer should be copy/pasted as well.
This has been quite an issue when dealing with complex modeling projects, and managing 100s of layer items.
(its not so much an issue if your modeling project is small)

Hm, I suppose the problem is that you're actually not copying layers, but the content of those layers (more precisely: the selected content).

Maybe there's a "Duplicate Layer" plugins that does what you expect.

Cheers,
Mike

Yeah, you're right about the copying of 'content' from one layer to another, as opposed to the layer itself in its entirety being copied. That's the better way to look at it I guess.

I've half mentioned this in the past, but if Lightwave's content managment on a foundation level was updated, it would improve workflow on so many levels. Is it possible to maintain pivot position when moving an object/geometry to another layer for example?

The layers system is still what it was back in 2000 when LW6 was released. That's 9 years ago.

Pivot plus from Dstorm, works quite well for copy/pasting pivot points with geometry from one layer to another.

did you ever find a solution to this?

http://chrisepeterson.com/lscripts/cp_meshcombine.zip, works very nicely;

it takes ALL layers from a source object, with their layer names, surfaces, and uvmaps, and copies each layer into a target object, preserving each layer name, etc;

I think that it will copy over any identical surface names, but that could be ammended with a little bit of lscript;
