Has anyone got any useful links to tutorials animating a spider walk? Maybe I've not looked hard enough but I can't find much on the web. Any advice on rigging also gratefully received.

You can take a look at this : http://zooldesign.free.fr/cms/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=22&Itemid=40

This is a spider rig I've done a while ago, which worked fine on the project it was used for. I decided to post it on my website as a freebie.

I think this download is a rig scene with no animation, but I'll see if I can find the animation scenes and post them here.

Feel free to use it if you find it useful :)

Can't find the scenes, I guess the original scenes have been archived somewhere, but can't seem to find them though.

I only found a preview (side view of a short sequence, saved from LW via the preview panel). This can be loaded and played in Layout, but this probably won't help much.

Let me know if you're interested

Larry and Weetos, cheers, guys! These look really helpful... Weetos if you found the scene file I would be eternally grateful.

Given the very instructive link posted by Larry, along with the rig I posted, I think you could have a walking spider without spending to much time.

I got the backup disks containing the scenes, but I don't remember the filename of the sequence I told you about - I'll have to bring the archive back home and identify which file is the right one and post it here (sorry I can't tell right now, no LW installed on my comp)

Ok I think I found the file, though I doubt this was the latest revision as the spider object is not the final version and environment is missing - But it shows a short walking part - I hope this helps

Since I didn't find the latest version of the sequence, I decided to set up a simple scene showing the rig in action. The walk cycle is being made by setting a set of four keys for each leg IK targets, with Offset Repeat defined as Post Behavior in Graph Editor. The tricky part is to synchronize the body translation with the legs stepping, which is actually done by setting a set of two keys, defining the translation on a short distance, and then by using "Linear" as Post Behavior in Graph Editor.

Here's a short video at one third of the actual speed :

Hope you find it useful

Hey all,
\ just curious if anyone has tackled a centipede cycle (20 or more legs).

I have heard about using Relativity.

I have read up and I guess the legs "wave through" slightly staggered in

timing from one side to the other.

ANy thoughts on a possible angle to attack this from -would be appreciated.
