View Full Version : BGConform based on UV's (creating Morphs between objects with different point orders)

Does anyone know if there is a plug-in available that is similar to BGConform but works using just the UV space instead?

I am amazed if there isn't, as it would be so powerful.

For example, say I have 2 meshes that have identical UV sets but their point order is different and they look very different, yet all their points and polygons in their UV maps share the same exact or similar space. Is there no way to then use this information to then Morph between the 2 models?

The applications for this would be vast and could save bucket loads of time while allowing some users the ability to create morph sets on objects that have completely different point orders!

I hope that makes sense?

Any ideas?

Here it goes...

You have 2 models, A and B... in the conditions you said.

Copy both to seperate new layers. Apply MeshReknitter in both (in same polygons), now you can use Background2Morph and BGConform between model A and B copies. Reknitter will shred the UV's in both copies.

So what i normally do is to use http://www.mikegreen.name/Files/mn_DrainBGVMap.zip
to drain the Morph from (A for example) model A copy to model A original and then i can delete all the copies.

Hey probinar, thanks for that. Although it sounds overly complicated to for what I proposed.

I'm still suprised that BGConform doesn't give you the options to use the UV space viewport to run the operation.

I need something simple and elegant that isn't going to destroy UV settings or Object groups.

Just a morph blend from one to the other using their UV structures to match in 3D space.

XSI and Maya both have moved in the right direction for these types of issues. Both have a great set of tools that all leverage ONE system of looking for data based on different method. One being UV space.

I'd say you're only hope is to ask Timothy Albee to modify his copy morph tool.

His tools are one of the few that understand these types of issues. So i'm sure it would not be a stretch for him to make this addition.

Hey Castius,

Thanks for that, I will see if I can find out anymore. I would be happy to pay a developer for such a plug-in. Perhaps Timothy Albee might be available and interested.

Cheers

Looks like I found a solution  a big thanks to Johan Steen.

I will post another thread soon showing more about how to use the script.
