Is this when rendering a single frame? When you hit F9 with other words?

The options you showed, only work when pressing F10 or when rendering an entire scene.

You can always render from frame 27 to 27 and press F10. Then it will safe it. But there's a much easier way to do this!

Just hit F9, and in the image that appears, at the upperleft, choose "file" and choose "save RGBA" then you can easy save one frame.

Also, you can choose save animation just above save rgb. from here you can make a quicktime movie

Because OS X is multitasking, you can simultaneously launch the Preview program and look at the images as they pop out of Lightwave. Just to check they are going OK.
