To get all the controls of the standard texture editor in the node editor, go to:

Add Node>>Layers>>ColorLayer

The interface is the same as the standard texture editor.

Well or use the add node> tools > Mixer

The Mixer alows you to mix a foreground and background image, using an alpha and or numerous Photoshop mixing nodes, under the 'blending' options.

you can also use maths nodes to do some of the Photoshop style mixing nodes, such as multiply or add, which does the same sorts of things.

Ahh Ok the Mixer node doesn't support all of the PS nodes I am afraid. Only the colour layers support all of them, including the soft light and overlay, by doing as dandeentremont mentions. Those effects are probably quite possible to replicate using nodes, but not by a single mixer node.
