So... what issues did you have with moving the model from XSI to LW? I'm curious, because I have a hard time believing that XSI would be worse than Maya in this regard, and I have yet to stumble across any real issues within this workflow.

:)

well the guy who made ikarus version 1.0 had 1 null per object, each object had a crap name like "cylinder 402" so also had a null called null 402 the actual file refused to export "as is" with something like 1800 nulls or more plus 1800 objects as a fbx, crosswalk or obj or .xsi to poly count was around 2.2 million polys, there was no proper surface/material naming or uv ing...

i'm pretty convinced he was not using xsi correctly and was really rather lazy in his naming and model structure

i tried merging stuff but it was a nightmare of a task...i couldn't get it into 3dsmax or lightwave as 1 object/scene export and staying in xsi was not my idea of fun with this model.:jester:

i either had 1500 or so objects or 15,000...one of the two but it was just too messy a thing to fix up...i did manage to export the warship and spacestation with merging and wot not but ikarus was going to be a pain so i decided to make a new one.

every tiny bit of an object had a null...for example a tiny radar dish, it's needle, the stantion and a couple of little boxes were all separate objects with nulls for each...anyone who has a clue in modeling would have merged them if they were not animated and caled that part radar dish and had maybe 1 null...even this thing has crappy names so you could not identify them in explorer view and just SO many nulls killed it for me.

*LOL*

That does sound like huge mess! I wonder why he made it that way?

Were the nulls positioned so that it would make sense from an animation standpoint? If not, I'm quite clueless to why anyone (even a rookie) would make it like that. :)

no, every single bit of geometry had a null wether it was totally static or animatable....i got passed this model to deal with as the modeler said his system was bogging down on it an he gave up...i wonder why!:D

anyhow we moved on from xsi to 100% lightwave for the most part with just a couple of scenes/models in 3dsmax with a mars landscape for example...all models either made in xsi, lightwave or 3dsmax ended up in lightwave as a master file.

hey, any comments on the actual show? :)

I enjoy the show. The sound is a lot better then the first demo. I just wish you guys had more shows pop up, at lest once a month maybe, once a week at best. i'll take 2 shows a week.

thanks again for showing off how your doing your work.
