Hi,
I will have to do realistic lava surface on the mesh imported from RealFlow. Are there any tutorials that I can read/watch to help me prepare?

I am watching Introduction to Node Based Texturing but I would like to have something little bit more specific...

Theres a few ways. Theres some useful presets with HVs that can be used, there might be some settings on preset central. It could be done using either nodal or even easier, with the layers system.
Heres a couple of quick examples:

thx guys

btw, is layers system easier than nodal?

to be hones the only node that im using is dielectric ;)

RealFlow mesh UVs work better than voxels since the texture can move with the shape of the flow. Some of the nodes like the SSS node wont render with RF meshes though.

...dielectric did ;)

RF did complete plug-in re-write, so mb sss will work too?

You may try the latest RF plugs that were just updated a few days ago. Someone on the RF forum said they still have problems with certain LW nodes... the ones that pre-process, whatever that means.

My brain just refuses to wrap around node surfacing in LW. Its such a convoluted guess as to what plugs into what to get what without having a specific result explained (even then I dont understand half of why it works the way it does), or thru a lot of trial and error. I am able to get whatever I want out of layers except SSS. I wish I could just drop an SSS node on top of my layered surface but that does not seem possible. Each time someone tries to explain it to me it just spirals into more questions and complexity. Am getting lightheaded just thinking about it.

Some old, magma done in LW5.6 with RF 1 particles and HVs.

I could not get RF meshes to work back then until the very end of this project and it was too late to implement into the workflow. I dont have examples but the UV mapped meshes moved and looked much better.

I can confirm that we still have problems rendering nodes that require pre-procesing using the newest RF<>LW plugin, and that, unfortunately does include the SSS nodes.

We are looking to see if there's a way around it. It works fine in F9 rendering, but just not in F10 rendering.
