View Full Version : Baking illumination to vertex maps

I got this set of trees from Evermotion (with bizarre LW setup scenes btw.. what is up with that?)

Anyway, I'm trying to bake some soft GI solution into the Vertex Map.
Since surface baking camera only supports baking to UV maps (grmbl), I use the older shader "Surface Baker" set to "Illumination".

Yet, either my VM ends up black, or partly black partly correct.

I can toss in some AO node into the color channel and bake that, but that won't be as good as a few bounce GI solution..
Searched the forum and found some threads about some quirks with this baking shader, but not a clear solution.

Anyone got a clue what I am doing wrong?

edit: hmm seems to work when only using backdrop GI (probably non interpolated too).. rest gives odd stuff, right?

non interpolated FG seems to work as well. All other things gave me some issues, but this will certainly do.
