Im trying to do tanktracks with follower and cycler. The follower works for it, but its super slow now. it takes 15 seconds to update a frame. every piece have folllower modifier on it. i changed every piece to lowpoly cube and its still slow. i only have 36 pieces on it. HELP!!!!!

Follower is not dependant on the geometry, so changing that won't change the speed.
However, it depends on what you reference as well as what kind of coordinates you use.
If Follower depends on another motion that in turn depends on another motion... it can get slow.
Also, world coordinates tend to be slower, after IK can be as well.

It does sound like a dependency issue in your case though.

Thanks Mike. I have one null object with motion and all the pieces follow it with different time settings. I tried to use DP motion node to do this with object ID to control the time lag. I was unable to make it work. Strange how slow follower is with this.... maybe expression would be faster? Im not very good with it. any ideas?

try same as item control instead of follower perhaps.

Same as item dont have time controls which i use to spread the peaces in different locations. First i tried to do good old morphing trick but then there will be problems with textures.

Do you have a sample scene? Stripped with null objects should be fine if the names are clear.

Ok! i changed follower from path delay to time delay and now it runs smoothly! :D Thanks anyway!

Ah, yes, that makes a lot of a difference. Internally, LW can easily evaluate values based on time. However, finding them time when an item is a certain distance away implies stepping through time to find it. And that can be _very_ slow.

I totally forgot about that option in Follower.

And i was writing about time delay all the time (and i thought i was using it ) :jester:

O.k., that settles it, it was all your fault from the start... :twak:

Hm, maybe this will help: http://www.lwplugindb.com/Plugin.aspx?id=09c0e001 ? (I haven't tried it though).
