View Full Version : Panther and GIMP/CinePaint?

After my troubles with uninstalling the GIMP this Summer, the guy at the Genius Bar (Apple Store, Chicago) said that there was some aspect of Panther which would allow 'more direct' installation of programs like the Gimp, CinePaint, Open Office, etc.

Anyone know what this actually means? Will the developers of those programs be writing different installers?

Or, will you still install them the same way when it comes to actually downloading and compiling, but skip the other steps; installing X-11, Fink, doing the terminal steps, etc.

And..will these programs get a bit faster? Noticed that GIMP was pretty capable but glacially slow..

X11 is the on really needed thing for GIMP or Cinepaint. Chances are X11 will be more of a part of OS X for the more traditional UNIX tools. and the libs that FInk install might be more on the default package.
I intsall Cinepaint on Mac. Don't like it on mac. Slow and crashes. I run Cinepaint on sgi box.
Hopefully that will fix.
