Has anyone tried setting up Amazon EC2 instances as LW render nodes?

I'm looking into the idea, it looks vaguely promising (albeit a bit complicated, esp. if you want to take advantage of spot instances), and I was trying to gauge whether there'd be any commercial interest in a plugin/package that would automatically allow the user to spawn EC2 instances as render nodes (perhaps even with spot instance bidding support, etc.).

Intriguing. Any idea about the cost?

I hope this feature is possible with CORE :)

You need to script this setup, perhaps with Python and run the render on a Linux Amazon Machine Images (AMI).

Spot instance are not possible, because no support for paid AMIs which you need. (http://aws.amazon.com/devpay/)

The cost are ~$1.99 per hour for 64-bit Quad (8 virtual Cores) machine with 7 GB of memory, High-CPU On-Demand or ~$0.50 per hour for 32-bit, 1,7GB RAM and 2 Cores - with both max. are 20 machines (render nodes).
