Hello together,

I have now finished working on the first Betaversion of my newest Script "Easylighting". Please test it and let me know what you think.

Please let me know also, if you have an idea for a better name for the script :)

You can download the free script here:

http://svenart.de/plugins/easylighting.zip

Description:

Easy Lighting is a lscript written to give the user the possibility to save/load and edit his favourite Lightsettings + more.

The main function of this script is to save & load your favourite lightsettings including radiosity, fog, backdrop and more. This is useful for example, if you want to change the lighting in your scene but you dont want to save your scenefile multiple times (scene_day.lws, scene_night.lws). Also, you can load your saved lightsettings in any other scenefile, and massedit your lights.

Please note:

1.This is a Betaversion for testing and not all lightsettings will be saved/loaded. See below in the list what the script can load/save. Also, this script is only working with the old 5 LW Lighttypes (Distant, Poin, Spot, Linear and Area).

2.If you want to massedit lights, you must first select the lights, then change settigs, then click on ok.

If you have any ideas to improve this script or problems using it, contact me on [email protected]

thank you all for your feedback and name ideas so far :) I will try to create a short tutorial tomorrow about how to use the script.

I will think about adding cameras, not sure at the moment.

So far :
( please ignore anything you've already considered )

Bugs(?)

only allows selection in the scene editor while open, not keys or viewports.

only allows, or displays, integers in some fields like Minimum Pixel Spacing and Angular tolerance.

does strange things to other panels, maybe it should be non-modal?

Requests

the "Use Backdrop color" button in the Fog tab.

"select all/none/invert" options in light list

"Light type" option, and/or grey out options that do not apply to certain types

Light inclusion/Exclusion, like this nice plugin :

hi toby, thank you for testing and your feedback.

angular tolerance can be loaded/saved and set, but the script cant read it from scene , when starting script (im working on it).

The script is not interactive, so you cannot select anything outside of the script menue when running.

what do you mean with "strange things" and "non-modal"?

about your requests: I will try to add most of the options into the next update.

Non-modal (I may have the term backwards) is when you're locked out of the rest of the gui while the panel is open. If the script is not interactive that might be the best. Strange things include the selection, and trying to opening the raytrace options in the lw panel wouldn't work.

I'm running 9.6 32bit in OSX 10.5.4 btw.

As someone who loves to light I really appreciate this! Please feel free from having to explain anything, you can just say "maybe" or "nope, can't do that", or even - nothing at all!

Non-modal (I may have the term backwards) is when you're locked out of the rest of the gui while the panel is open...

'Modal means that the user must close the panel before continuing to work in LightWave', non-modal is the inversed situation.
You could have non-modal, still opened/interactive while tweaking
other things in Layout in a master lscript.

thank you sven, this is looking to be a very useful script, again!

i would love to see:

* non modal panel, if possible
* optional inclusion of effects/ backdrop list items (all environment textures, plugins or shaders used in the list)

name suggestion: lightmaster

cheers

Nice plugin Sven.

About the name, basically it work on the scene setting and lights are part of it, so I don't see the need to use 'light' in the name.
Scene Set IE
Scene Set Import Export
Scene Set Save Load
Scene Set IO (in out)

I'd suggest to consider removing the error message for the load and save bottons.

Maybe, SceneSetsManager
Or, Scene Presets Manager

I didn`t used it yet, but I`m sure it will be a really useful one.
Thanks.

* non modal panel, if possible

This type of plug-in must execute commands (the same as you enter in CommandInput plug-in). The only safe place for doing so, is after user press OK button. This always has been the biggest problem with writing LW plug-ins, at least for me, as I always tend to convert everything into interactive tools.
If you remember/know mine CameraMan plug-in- this is example of hack that forces executing commands from places not designed for it (in CM case- while user hits WSAD keys).
