Im being supplied a fbx file from a studio max user but the UV's dont translate so looks like im gonna have to texture it up myself....so question is how do i go about doing it? For example-apply a nice even checkerboard pattern across it without distortion?

Any tutts, vids you can point me to please, most big thumbs up!

Oh-and if anyone knows of a better format that will allow for UV translation between lightwave/max please do pipe up, ta!

An obj I would surmise. make sure you put a texture on color, for example, in order for the info to 'stick'.

Otterman: yes, but he also means map the UV, whatever channel it's on, to colour, to make sure it comes in.

Woo-hoo thanx guys that is indeed good news.

Just out of interest, how does one go about mapping an on object such as this natively in LW. UV's aint my thing. Has Mr Vaughn covered this in his vids because i have not come across it.

Get the UV edit plugin from here. It allows you to mark seams and unwrap the model's UVs kind of like a dress might unwrap to its original pattern shape.
