Speed Modeling Challenge #67- Things that are bad for you
--------------------------------------------------------------------

*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.
3. LightWave should be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

**Please mention whether or not you would be happy to share the model.**

They'd qualify. Certainly not good for you anyway! :)

Very interesting topic! I wish I had time but I don't think I'll be able to join in. :(

So many possible ideas!

ok so here the first one I guess. 50 min modeling, countless texturing and lighting 5 hours render.

Zoinks! You've set a high bar, oobievision. Is that one mesh? The detail in the lowest part of the neck is very impressive.

Yikes! that's pretty realistic, (glug...hic) :)

I have a problem. Got my WhiCo glass finished in 40min. However.. I have used the dielectric node on the glass and the drink, but no color shows up. Whatever I do, it does not color, just simple plain glass.
It isn't that difficult to set color, but it does not work. Anyone any suggestion? 9.6 64b windows version and tried it on the 9.6 32b version, both the same problem.

I have just recreated the exact same thing as in Proton's glass video... same thing.. no color. Is this a bug?

What are we going to do next week Brain?

I didnt use dialectric node, its actually more than one the wrappers are there own mesh and I used bump maps for the JACK DANIELS and the 700 ML. I did it in subD and froze the Geometry to get a higher poly so it would look smoother if u want the model just ask ill give it to ya.

use caustics, that's what I did, but I didn't use dialectric node

This would have been a really nice one, but I simply cannot get ANY colors on there. I am no expert @ lightwave, but no novice either.. this must be a bug or something or I am missing something completely.

It was supposed to be my baddest thing... Whiskey Cola.. 2 a night.. every night :S

check to make sure the absorption rate is high that might help.

chco2
12-07-2009, 10:21 AM
Your scene files renders correctly. There must be something I am missing here. Although.. if you take a look at Proton's Glass tutorial, it is really easy.. but even then I do not get any colors. I even tried it again just now, almost did what he did identically.. no colors. Not for the glass nor for the liquid inside.

I will get to the bottom of this :)

Thanks for the scene file though! Gonna go through those settings and see what I am missing..

chco2
12-07-2009, 10:35 AM
ok.. I might be on to something.. multiplied Proton's absorption levels by 100.. I am getting some color highlights now, but just spec highlights. Gonna dig deepers here :)

are u using Fprime to render? also check the lights u may need to check off the caustics on the properties panel if u havent already

ok.. dropped the dielectric node material.. just didn't work (as I expected).
Used the normal material editors.

My two bad things for me :)

try turning on limit dynamic range might help with the noise u seem to be getting in the refraction, Tin looks good!

This was an old one I did a few years ago(NOT AN ENTRY)

I'm struggling to find time this week. I liked having a couple of days to think about it before the weekend arrived!

Great entries so far guys

Vicodin bottle and pills 40 min modeling, if anyone wants this model ill gladly share it, im sure some would like the plastic material, I was impressed myself with it on how good it looks. lol

I ought to be ashamed of myself for this!

"Hey, man... you gotta try the new 'vice,' heh! You can get totally flat!"

Less than 30 minutes. I've got a video, but it's too unpleasant to post.

Oh yeah.. since season six I am off of Vicodin!

I haven't been around in a long time, glad to see these still going.

Funny thing... whiskey and pills. They can be bad for you, or if you're not careful they could kill you (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showpost.php?p=854816&postcount=31) all together. :hey:

Its worth noting that the absorption settings are effected by the scale of your object, the larger the model the larger the number you will need for absorption.

Very nice
The pills get brighter underneath - do you have gi intensity above 100%?

32 minutes modeling. Camtasia crashed, so I lost the video, but it would have been funny to watch me trying to figure out how to evenly space the numbers and tic marks.

You don't want too much of this! It feels good, but ultimately it will catch up with you...

Pretty close to the maximum I've travelled at on two wheels! :)
Felt more like riding a missile than a vehicle. :D

KPH or MPH?

KPH or MPH?
Leagues per fortnight!

I've hit 100 mph in a 1979 VW Rabbit. (On level ground, the top speed was 95, but Rt. 128 is hilly.)

140 mph or so in a 1989 Toyota MR2.

And nearly 200 mph (ground speed) in a Grumman Cougar.

Sorry for the delay-I think we need to get this back to Wednesdays.

Anyway, the winner this week is oobievision with his pill bottle.
Congratulations and well done on two great entries in one week!

Nah, not when there's an in depth tutorial on the subject :D. You kind of got it for concerted effort though
