Hello, I am currently working on an hp desktop and I want to move to a macbook pro 13". I use lightwave, after effects, premeire pro, photoshop, and hopefully xcode. How well would the 2.5 ghz handle? or would I be much better off with a 15"

13" is tiny! It's only good for non-graphics programs. Especially 3d, it needs plenty of screenspace

I will be using another monitor.

The faster the CPU the better, lots of cores, lots of ram, fast hard drives, good graphics.

If you need a laptop then you have to sacrifice the above.

What do you mean sacrifice? My current machine is worse than the higher end 13inch in every way except for the HDD and the fact that yes, it is qiad core, but its only 1.8ghz. It runs the software fine.

A good benchmark for Lightwave http://3dspeedmachine.com/?page=3&scene=39 I would use an i7 920 overclocked to low 3.0 Ghz as a starting point benchmark for a new box. Buying more than this is going to be lots of dollars. Buying less than this is going to compromise getting jobs done efficiently.

Then estimate what % your new Laptop will perform in relation to the above. Eg a 920 will render this scene in about 2 minutes & a Core 2 Duo 2.5 Ghz will render in about 7 minutes. (A 920 will give you one of the highest frame output rates per dollars per whole box set up)

Other programs will have their bench marks. Some need seriously good hard drives or raid as well.

At the end of the day your the one parting with hard earned cash & will have to find a balance between Price, Performance & Portability.
