I haven't seen that much spam in a long time.

I'm sure it'll be cleaned up soon.

SERIOUSLY! I killed 49 threads created by 2 people using 4 different IP's this morning. The spamming has been a major problem the past couple of months. I have a plan to help curb it I just need final approval before I make the changes. But another day like today and it will be done regardless.

With what little time I get for SQ lately its checking new posts to see if they have spammers, usually sig spammers in them. On average I ban 2 a day EVERY day! As the other mod's know I'm seriously, uhmmmm, 'upset' with this mess.

The huge irony was my FaceBook Email account getting hacked last week and sending out a porn based Email out. Yeah, that went over real well when I found out!

I think everything is getting hit with those live human CAPTCHA reading farms.

I think the spammers pay $2 / 1000 CAPTCHAS or challenge questions....

Sigh.

They also get paid for every account that sits dormant for 3 months and stays active .

Best thing to do is let us know when you see the spam. We will take care of it ASAP.

No way! Never knew they were up to that, although it doesn't surprise me, spammers are scumbags of the highest order and need "removing" from this planet.

I hate them with all my black little heart!

Few hate them more then me, especially over this past week. We should get paid three dollars to banish them and clean up the messes they make!

I do have to say though few things make me happier then bannng a spammer whose in the act of spamming. That always gives me a HUUUGGGGEEEEEE smile followed by one loud, long and evil laugh!

We implemented a policy that every new account has to be approved by a moderator first. This has cut down on Spam by about 98%.

Ye I noticed that , and if your password is admin it takes even longer :D

Edit , which suggest to me you cross referenced ips first ?

Thats actually not a bad idea. If Aurora don't see this, I may bring it up with him later and see if this is something we should do as well. Right now just about anything can help.

Spam is really really nice when grilled and threw on a butty with fried egg < runny yolk > and brown sauce mmm its de shizzle. Spammers under a hot grill I fear would just cause noise polution and not be at all tasty and would probably be a major waste of fried egg, bread and brown sauce.

Prefer mine with mushrooms instead of egg, but right there with you on the grilled bit. :D

Well equipped with a swollen mouse finger. I deleted 287 threads this morning. Happily I banned him and the damned bot before it finished. Happily it was not all that bad with mass new thread selection/deletion. I just hope I did not deleted a non-spam thread, I was careful but.....

Dude is over there going crazy right now!!! I tried to bump actual user threads so people would see what was actually commented on today..

Good Luck Guys.

Hey, that was a hell of a trick too considering I banned the user and the IP yesterday. But I guess killing 58 threads tonight versus 287 yesterday. Oh wait that still sucks, end of discussion. Oh wait no its not as I also killed 2 other 'survey' spammers and a Windoze7 spammer. Someone must know I'm a spring break and have nothing better to do then kill spammers. And oh how I wish I could.

Auch Aurora =\
That's why some foruns have that annoying and probably also time consuming to the moderator: First post moderation, in wich the moderator has to approve the person's post and from that moment on there no need to moderate post from that person before them showing up.

Best wishes

Why not also have it so the first two posts of a new member need to get approved by an admin before posting. Or something like that. If they seem really out of place or slightly spamish you can just stop the posts.

I will pass the info on to Wes, although I'm sure he's reading this thread as well as is aware of the problems on SQ. As the other SQ mods are well aware I'm way past ready to launch a genocide attack on spam bots and those that create them.

I'm a moderator at these Forum Boards:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_read&i=21

They created their own Forum structure, and have it set up where I approve all new poster's posts; there is some sort of predetermined amount of time and/or post count before a member is off post moderation.

It's been very effective, as I don't come across any unwanted spam at all (that I don't let through ;))

We do the same thing on the 3D-Coat forums where I am an admin. Any members first post needs to be approved before it becomes visible to the public. We catch like 98% of the spam this way.
