Speed Modeling Challenge #66- The store of Questionable Bargains

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.
3. LightWave should be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

**Please mention whether or not you would be happy to share the model.**

Lightwave Speed Modeling Group

We've all seen the "50% off" adverts, so what if there was a very good reason for that? ;)
A store where every bargain has a reason, mostly, not so good!

Think of an item with something missing, and put it on sale, any price tags don't have to be included
in the modelling time. :)

I've thrown together a quick example to give you an idea.

Have fun
Time Limit - 60 minutes.

Deadline - Friday 4th December 2200 hrs GMT

11-29-2009, 05:46 AM
Im struggling to think of somethign for this one... hmmm

11-29-2009, 08:47 AM
well, think of all the possible cliches. ;) a table missing a leg (25% off) etc.. :p

11-29-2009, 08:54 AM
Mine would have been a Condom packet with a needle next to it saying "Damages goods 50% oFF " .

11-29-2009, 10:28 AM
Toilet paper 2nd hand, 50% off (only one side used)

11-29-2009, 12:40 PM
Dirty minds :)

Nothing fancy, took 20 m of modeling & texturing:)

and the wire:

For those who do not see the bargain... (see expiration date :-))

11-30-2009, 07:22 AM
heh, like it. :)

Been a while since I played. I joined this one because of the trickiness of the subject matter.

Here's my elevator to a sale of very heavy items. (I can't really recommend going to the 19th floor in this death box.) Call it 32 minutes of modeling. I'll link to a timelapse video soon.

Here you go. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwwUI0UncCI) Nothing groundbreaking in there, but I had the recording on, so... what the heck.

Two more renders and a little more modeling work, about 40 mins now.
Just read the actual title "The store of.." so I made a store out of it :)

Breast Implant, I rushed the textures and I know its not much modeling but I thought it would be funny. 15 min modeling 40min on HV particles.

Two more renders and a little more modeling work...
Looks like Neo asked for "Canned mushrooms. Lots of canned mushrooms."

12-01-2009, 12:39 AM
hehe, with a white background and no ceiling it actually could have come straight from "the Mushroom Reloaded" :)

An hour for this model. I didn't manage to do the pedals but that was the idea :hey:

These things are so cute I had to finish it up..........

Iain: ... <- you know it already.

Class render!

12-01-2009, 01:06 PM
When I grow up, I want to be as skilled as Iain. :)

Super effort Iain

Couldnt figure out how to get the prismatic caustics to work.

If you ever figure out let me know. However, I have been toying with the idea of using illuminated color polygons on the surfaces where the prismatic effect is supposed to be. Quite a bit of work but it is an idea.

Nice work on the rest though.

well I was using a plugin I found here on the forums, called Prismatic but I dont know if it works in 9.6

Guys, as I'm away later today, the winner announcement will be late, likely after the weekend, so please don't wait on me to declare the winner before starting the next challenge.
I don't want to make an early judgment in case someone gets a last minute entry in. :)

12-07-2009, 01:50 AM
Anyone know the new challenge as yet?

12-07-2009, 02:10 AM
Yeah I do............

12-07-2009, 02:15 AM
Well, I'm back, (gawd did it ever rain this weekend!)
Anyhoo, I did some thinking, (a shock I know ;) ), in the end, I've decided Nangleator is the winner for a couple of reasons.
Not least of which was he came up with a slant on the subject I hadn't thought of, never occurred to me the shop itself would likely also be well dodgy. :) Modelling was very clean and yet effective.

So congrats Nangleator on the win and thanks for the video of your work too, very informative.

Of course, everyone should pay a visit to Iains thread on the finished trike if they haven't. Just in case you haven't yet been depressed by skill so far today! :D :p

12-07-2009, 06:57 AM
Wow! Didn't expect to beat out that stellar, photoreal work by Iain!

Thanks, colkai. Do I come up with a subject after the current one?

12-07-2009, 07:21 AM
Yep, you'll be choosing challenge #68 :)

12-07-2009, 07:43 AM
Okay, I'll spend the week thinking of something good. Here are my first thoughts:

Pre-Star Wars SF spacecraft
Video Game Icons (Pacman, Mario, Line Art Tanks, Lara Croft outfits, etc.)
Snakessss! (Cute, realistic, fictional... and the pose will be part of the judging.)
DeBonders (Diabolical devices or machinery to kill super spies. Crushing ceilings, flaming pits, shark tanks, exploding cigars, etc.)
Alien Furniture (Beds, chairs, toilets... Make us wonder who owns it, and shiver with revulsion.)

Suggestions welcome!

I like the sound of that. Congratulations
