View Full Version : Modeler crash on startup

Today when I started Lightwave 9.6 (64-bit) I get an immediate crash, with only a window saying "A critical error has occurred, create a crash report?".

I removed my config files, then uninstalled and reinstalled again and was met with no luck. However, Layout 64-bit and Modeler 32-bit are both working fine.

Any ideas here?

Vista Ultimate 64, Modeler has been working fine for quite a while.

How is it that you have 64bit and 32bit installed on the same 64bit OS? Why not just use 64bit versions?

Ran the installer twice, chose 64 bit one time and 32 bit the next. That's never been a problem, been doing it since 9.2.

Do you have to use 32 for plugin compatibility? I would imagine that the two versions might be the problem. Just a thought.

You got it. I keep the 32 bit version on there to use the dts exporter for torque game engine.

DOH! Did you say that you uninstalled both 32 and 64 versions and all 9X versions of LW along with configs? If not try that. If you did do that already, then I'm not sure what it is.

Instead of deleting config files, I would try redirecting config directory to other place like f.e. modeler.exe -c"d:\config"..

Alright, so I've narrowed it down to the LW9EXT-64.cfg file that's causing the crash. Is there anyway to see the crash report so I can further narrow down the problematic entry in the config file?

I must have missed this cfg file before when I was trying to wade through them before. Thanks Sensei, the command line switch helped me figure out what was going on.

It's text file, so cut-n-paste is your friend. Cut until crash appears/disappears and you will find what line is causing it..
