Speed Modeling Challenge #64- Let's get Physical
--------------------------------------------------------------------

*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.
3. LightWave should be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

**Please mention whether or not you would be happy to share the model.**

Yes...it's a short one. I wanted to get it back to the traditional Wednesday time frame.

But if people ask for it...I don't mind making it a full week :D

I kinda like Friday endings. It gives some more deadline possibilities somehow :)

Kuzey
11-13-2009, 12:52 PM
Ok...done, but I hope to see something from you both. No pressure or anything :D

It may have been to do with the month :D
We are in November now, at least I think we are.

Ok Kuzey, I see what I can do... I was thinking about a snooker table or something. There you have it, nobody steel my idea now please, it took me a whole minute to think about it :)

Lol, each to their own, after 62 challenges ending on a Wednesday, that was my preference, but I can see how Fridays could work out, so I'm good with that.

Let's see if I can get something in this time, pretty sure I won't have time for a render, but maybe a model at least.

Anything to do with physical activity....and keep it clean

Ahh sh**, there goes half my ideas! ;D

I once saw a tutorial from Proton on a basketball net..
Think I'll go for that..

Here's one I did for the 3dTotal challenges about 4 years ago.
(Not an entry!)

Hope to get something done by Wednesday, erm Friday.

Kuzey

You know, I was thinking of joining 3dTotal just to take part in the current challenge. I did a drawing of a steampunk ray gun (for the pirate challenge) that's screaming to be made :hey:

darn 60 min to short to model a baseball :( took me 4 hours to make one for a project I made for the marlins, then again that never saw the light of day.

ok.. my first shot.
Modeling was pretty quick, around 45 m. Setting up, surfacing and rendering took a bit more :)

and the wire :

Took about 45 mins modelling, mainly faffing about with the knurling.
Some UV's and texturing, render via Sibl plugin.

Did normal render at first but weights were still segmented so just hit TAB to dub-D 'em. Looks a bit better now.

thought I'd add an image of the basketball in itself as well..

Ok,
This one took me down to the wire, 59 minutes modelling.

As can be seen from the Occ. render, the geometry hasn't been microbevelled, I simply didn't have the time.

I'm going to work on the surfaces and fake bevelling with the edge shader, (once I remember how to use it :p), so the final coloured render should not look so blocky.

Just thought I'd post it up before I start work on texturing. :)

I really, REALLY could not of done this without LWCAD. :D

Great stuff chko2 and Colkai!

Textured and rendered with SiBL, used the edge shader to fake microbevels.

Super cool...I was hoping to see darts.

It a serious sport, they even have televised tournaments....some of the best TV I have ever seen

Trouble with darts is, I always end up thinking of the Alas Smith & Jones sketch. :p

Kuzey: Love the surfacing and rendering on them hand grips. :)

Cool stuff so far. I was halfway through those hand grips when you posted, Kuzey 8/

Skipping ropes. About 25 minutes modelling................

Nice bowling ball Richard.
A bit more AA and some motion blur would make that a cracking render I reckon.

This old style tennis racquet took me the full hour.

R.Feeney
11-19-2009, 07:15 AM
A great looking racquet Iain

At the moment I cant leave my computer on for long enough to get a decent render cooked, every couple of hours seems to bring a new electrical storm thundering in to the area.
Both of theses were just 1 pass AA.

Kuzey
11-19-2009, 07:21 AM
I was going to do an old style tennis racquet as well...now I'm glad I didn't start it :hey:

Just something that popped into my head...that would make a super cool cartoon render :D

Edit: I found this one the net, but it's not that funny...the idea of it made me laugh.

I`m sure I have seen another one in that vein too, done in 3D without any caption but a lot more expression on the pins

Nice Renders And Models From All!

Never mind...I'll pick now.

The winner is Colkai....for his exercise machine

I'm thankful these challenges are based on modelling. Otherwise, there's no beating Iain and R.Feeney with their killer renders :hey:

Great work everyone :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yes indeed...they are a crazy pair. I had to avoid looking at their renders too much, in fear of becoming blind by all the awesomeness :hey:

Thanks guys, sorry for the late reply but jsut got back from a weekend down at the wildlife centre. :)

Kuzey

Hehe, totally agree with that. ;) :D

Well done Col!

I bet that was a tricky bugger to get the proportions right :)

Funnily enough, not too much.
All I did was take the size of my feet to my butt and work from there. I used to have one of these machines for years so was quite familiar with the overall layout. I did take a few liberties in terms of structure as I wouldn't of had time to do the setup my machine had.
Was good fun though. :)

Am I right in thinking I have to come up with the subject for #66?
