I had this problem before, but it's about time to fix it.:help:

The first one is with glass on the outside. The second with the glass on the Inside/double sided. From the Outside looking to the inside its the same. (I think the two at the end of the room got no glass in yet)

Are you using spotlights with shadow maps by any chance?
Shadow maps cannot see through transparent objects and treat them as opaque solids.

Changeing from Area to Distant light did the trick. But you know what the shadows look like, don't you ?!. Time to get familiar with the spinning light trick I guess.

I take it you're trying to use radiosity here and the rays aren't making it through the glass. Give the glass the physical dimensions that it needs, no need for double sided, and make sure, as the others have said, that ray trace transparency is on and directional rays are turned on. This forces the calculation of the rays through the glass. Even when using final gather in interpolated mode, this ensures that the transparent surfaces are rendered using a monte carlo method. Recursion isn't going to help here as this just calculates the limit of internal reflections and maximum bounces of light in the radiosity solution and can be left low for most cases.

Actually as odd as this might sound. In your radiosity settings untick 'use transparency' - this way surfaces with any transparency will be simply ignored as if they weren't there, which is the reverse of what you might think!

Failing that, make sure the glass is on a seperate layer. Go to that object's render tab, in properties, and select 'unseen by radiosity'. You can also set it to be ignored by lights, or shadows too, if it's a shadowing issue (which it doesn't appear to be). :)

@Amurrell and Tobian. I tried everything you wrote so far (minus the Extra Layer) but the Area light dosen't punch thruth. The Distant light and a few others types do.

Just sayin.

yeah right. An "R" is missing. But it is too late for an edit. (at least for one by myself)

EDIT: and "coming" is in the wrong place ^^

So did you try my other suggestion then?

It was late, I read it as 'truth' and thought it was kind of poetic.

lol

yes, did not work. But turning "cast shadows" off on that seperate layer "works". Works in quotes b/c its bad for textured glass

Same here when I wrote it. Oh and I'm missing a "g" too as well. :D

The Title is "Almost (?) no light coming through the glass windows. What is wrong?
