Speed Modeling Challenge #63- Green Fingers
--------------------------------------------------------------------

*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.
3. LightWave should be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

**Please mention whether or not you would be happy to share the model.**

Well then. Quick and very dirty :D
Time schedule:
Making photos : 15 min
Creating object : 5 min
Rendering : 1 min

Build the mushroom (stam and top) but a spider object that I had lying around (no clue where I got it) on top to show it is actually an object and not just a picture. Front projection did the rest.

Tip on Front projection (just recently learned that not many people know this):
In this case I used one area light. Duplicate this and keep it exactly the same as the 1st light. Make it -100% and have it exclude any object that is not fron projection.
Set the surface that has front projection to 100% diffuse and 100% luminosity. You then get an exact match. (of your object and the background).

Mushroom :

Technical modelling is more my thing, so I thought I give this one a try.
Modelling was just under the hour, so texturing was done with presets. Except for the walls.

...so texturing was done with presets.

just wanted to make sure you know that only the modeling needs to be under the time limit, and the surfaces, textures and render setup can take as long as necessary

Hey all,

Modeling about 40 minutes (latest beta of LWCad rocks).

Front projected images is not my thing. Have a lot to figure out so it would look more real.

Greetings,
Sigurd

Nice work chco2.
I think if you reduced the scale of the texture on your background by about 50% it would sell the size of the lawnmower a bit more.

A cactus, came out a bit better than the flytrap i think.
15-20 min modeling

Thanks!
I agree, but the texture is only about 2 planks high, so in the end I scaled that texture up because it had a lot of repetition in it.
I'll fingle with it some more ;) Blades are also a bit to big, but I actually saw a reference online that had such big blades, so I guess I can get away with that :D

Like the cactus ;) Pot a bit less..

nice model one suggestion if I may
On your blades your area lights causing alot of noise , have you ticked reduce noise on the render setting ? It may help .

Peace

It is actually rust :) From a distance it looks like noise, but its just the textured applied. I'll render a closeup later on.
Thanks for comment! Positive or negative it is always welcome. :)

I think what the grain/noise creates is the spec map on the texture. Cause noisereduction is on. Kinda like it this way ;)
Bad thing about the closeup is the procederal on the inner wheel.. spreads over the side :(

Well this was a tricky one to call. In the end I've gone with R.Feeney's Cactus, partly because I like the shading, and partly because I was hoping for more plants :) I didn't have time myself before the deadline, but I might have a go now for the hell of it :)
