View Full Version : Linear goal?

I've been trying to find a way to get an IK setup that results in a sort of 'line goal'. i.e. Rather than having the IK chain end up directly at it's goal, I want it to end up on a line, e.g. anywhere along the goal's z axis.
I've attached a diagram showing what I mean. If I have a rotating null, attached to which is a hinge like system of two arms, both of which must remain rigid and fixed in length, how would I get the end of the IK to always be constrained to the arbitrary line?

I think you'd just need something to limit the last object's movement on the Y, right? There's gotta be a motion plugin that does that -

Thanks Cageman. You're a star :)
I wrote an lscript in the end which is available here: free plugins (http://www.euriskostudios.com/es/plugin_pages/free_plugins.php)
It also has the ability to move the path during animation, which can look pretty funky.
