Interesting:

In cases where general global illumination effects are not required, the current mental ray software rendering mode may continue to be faster and more flexible.

Hehe, there's a few other interesting bits in the FAQ. But at least it's honest and doesn't hype the topic. I assume that's because mental images actually come from the production renderer side of things.

If i read the paper correctly, it seems very cool for people who do Arc Viz (though you have to do without motion blur in fly throughs).

For our company it seems to be MR will still be the rendered of choice as iRay is more of an one click solution that doesn't allow for a lot of flexibility yet.
