I agree. I wonder whether we've lost a generation of character designers as we're now moving back into animated features after decades of it being unpopular. We've had Pixar and a few other for some time now but there has been a big gap since the popularity of 2d animated features and now the 3d animated ones. There has been so much concentration on the technical aspects and photo-realism that it seems that some of the creative aspects have been lost. I suspect that is why films such as Nightmare before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run have been so popular because they straddle the gap between '3d' and creative character design.

I dunno...just ramblin'
