Any mac users use http://www.cheetah3d.com/gallery.php?gn=7
I came across this software while researching about unity3d. Seems like a good app and quite cheap.

basic animation capable.

I looked into it once for fun, but then I read their tutorial on how to create something and noticed it took about 20 more steps to model something than in LW or XSI.

I'd go with blender over it if you're looking to save money. Cheaper PLUS there is training out there and there are export options to other applications.

Yes. i downloaded a demo once and found it to be very thin on features and not really user friendly enough to compensate for it's lack of depth.

Thanks. I was looking for an easy way to create asset for unity3d and came across it. The gallery wasn't bad and the models seem good enough. Lightwave fbx exporter is a bit iffy.
