Cameron is known to "get a bit from here and there" ;)

that said, is it impossible to make an original movie these days?

i'm guessing you could do the same exact thing with LOTR as well :)

Yes it is. There are only a handful of various plots, I seem to remember the number 8 from my literary classes in college. Everything else is just a variation on one of those basic storylines.

That's why I always laugh when people say gripe and bit$% about all the movies being the same and unoriginal. I guess there are various ways to tells those stories, but in the end the stories don't vary all that much. Different character, times, places, etc... but the story remains about the same.

Delgo was OK for me, obviously I can't judge on Avatar since I'm not even 100% sure I've seen what Avatar is really all about.

But I am getting very excited to see '9'! At first just seeing the posters I thought another stupid waste of time but after seeing the trailers I'm more psyched about it then everything else coming out the rest of this year save Avatar.

That guy simply has far too much time on his hands and not much of a life to fill it with. :p

Well, it will be a long version from his (Shane Acker's) short movie by the same name, and with Tim Burton as the producer it will surely remain dark and mysterious. :D

Cool... I didn't know it was based on a short film. Very cool. I like how there was no dialog in the short. I know it would have been hard to get a feature produced that way but it might have been really deep.

It's out here now and I'd like to go and see it, but I'm worried it might be too dark for our six year old. :(

I have to admit that by re-reading auroras post I now assume he was talking about "District 9"... oops. :o

Nope you were right the first time and thanks to the link to the short, LOVED it! Now I'm really looking forward to the movie! It's non-traditional, rule breaking and looks extremely moody. Same reasons why I'm looking forward Avatar.

That comparison is far worse than the one between Dark City and Matrix. And the shot between lovers?? PUH-lease, that's been done 100,000 times. Gentle but tough female character? Should Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver join the lawsuit? 'Ripley' in "Alien" wasn't even the first, but probably started the surge of strong female characters.

You know what Fathom pictures is doing - trying to get some attention, and hoping they can get some hush-money, to help make up for their losses.
