Seeing Hypervoxel support in FPrime 3.5, I subsequently bugged the horns off the Cebas team (I use finalRender in Max), for similar capability in their upcoming R3 (the SE version comes with Pyrocluster...similar to Dynamite for LW). I did the same for an FPrime-esque IPR almost 2yrs ago. Looks like they are delivering on both fronts. It also comes with a feature similar to HD instances, but the difference here is that you can have millions of objects...not just millions of poly's. It's call FR Scatter.

So this would be the equivalent to having LW's native render with an IPR matching FPrime 3.5, Dynamite and VRay Scatter...all included in one renderer.

i think the cool thing here is it works with "everything"...everything that's avalable in max is suppoorted in the IPR, so whilst other preview renderers may have a more interective 'feel' rather than the let go mouse=see update they do not cover everything in the host app which is a huge deal in reality as those preview renderers will stop being useful if you need a feature thhat's not fully supported or is a hack with a proxy result from say a viewport shader rathe than actual ray tracing or shadowmaps

The one in modo also works with everything (+ various passes, alpha and full scene ambient occlusion). It interactively previews both fibres and volumetrics as well as having the option for MC or IC radiosity. You can also navigate directly in the preview viewport. It's probably the best CPU previewer I've seen so far - and it's native. That's cool, and when it has a full-fledged Character Animation system, Particles, Fluids/Volumetric Effects, Dynamics, etc., then I'll be inclined to take a peek at Modo.
Having render previews update as soon as you let up from the mouse IS Interactive....all you get is a haze before you let up from the mouse anyway, so what do you gain from that? This is plenty interactive for me (this was done last year at Siggraph 08...so it's seen some improvements):

Fprime 3.5 offering HV support was a big deal too, in my opinion. Just a shame there's not a more robust, more accurate volumetric engine currently available for LW...especially since Dynamite is history (looked very promising and wish NT would buy the code from Cantarcan to implement in CORE and further develop it themselves)

Well I think you and the rest of us can forget about that, I think newtek already tried something like that, check Jay roths post on this thread.

we will probably have to wait quite some time before updates on volumetrics hypervoxels or fluids getīs to core if they start develop something new.
oto_taca is something mysterious that might show up for core if and when
tim (aurora dunn) getīs the fuel burning.
