View Full Version : some technical questions

Hi all!! I'm new to lightwave and I have a few technical questions. I haven't been able to find tutorials covering these topics either.

1. How to move pivots. I need to animate an object and it needs to rotate on the edge at one point and from the center later on... can you animate the pivot in lightwave, or at least move it?

2. How can you keep a character's head to follow the rest of the body's rotations? In Maya I've seen an attribute called 'Align'. Is there such a thing in lightwave? Assuming it needs to be rigged then where would it show up??

3. Switching fk/ik. I found a global switch. Could it be switched individually for each ik or fk control?? Again, if it is just a matter of the rig then where would the attribute be??

that's it for now. I might have more questions later.

Thanks in advanced...

MMmmm Yes.

1 is best done with multiple transforms rather than editing pivots.

2 You would use a "same as item" motion property. It's kinds like Maya constraints.

3 It's on the motion property of the item being driven by IK. Look in the motion panel. "m"

To set up full IK/FK blending with pole vector you will need to setup constraints with "same as item". I should have an example somewhere on these forums.

RebelHill has just made a great rigging resource for LW. I would check it out.

1) In Layout there is a "Move Pivot" tool (Modify>Translate>Move Pivot) but I don't think it can be animated. You can also set the pivot in Modeler (View>Layers>Pivot).

You can parent an object to a null and use the null as a handle for the object.
