I'm working on getting my 3D resources collection in order. I was wondering if there was a plugin (or any other tool) that would maybe write out a selected object in layout to a separate directory with all associated maps. Also, any suggestions on how you successfully organize your stuff would be great.

As far as organizing stuff goes I have always preferred to have a very shallow directory set up that can be built wide instead of deep and narrow. This way you can see everything without having to dig through layers of folders.

Another thing that helps is to keep everything in a Lightwave style directory system for a project so within your project folder you should have a individual folders for objects, scenes, images, motions etc.

Under file in layout you should find "Package Scene" it will create content directories for you and copy objects images and scenes for you.

I made a script that improves the way incremental save works, it puts the increments in a separate folder "filename_incr/filename_v001.lws" and it is for both Layout and Modeler. That way you always work on the same file and increments gets sent off to its own folder. Perhaps its something you can take and build upon?

@R.Feeney is that a feature request, or do you have that in your File menu? cant see it here in the Mac version of LW.

Look for "Save Project"

Hi, I started this thread. Thanks to all for the info. Here is my experience using LW 9.6 CMF on Mac G5 Leopard:

"Package Scene" gave an error "Cannot create destination directories" even when saving to my public folder.

"Content Manager" plugin works.

"Save Project" plugin works & is more straightforward & simple.

Here are the links to the Save Project plugin.

Petterms, thanks for the incremental save (backup) plugin.

I know The Worms of Art had some project-structuring-tool-kind-off-app for Lightwave, but they apparently went belly up, the domain doesn't work anymore.

No problem. Perhaps I should take it one step further and add management features to it such as an easy rollback function and other workflow improvements.

I have been thinking about making a one-button-script that generates a "project" type setup for LW, models, textures, render output, temp files (LW<->AE) and so on. Shall see what time and inspiration allows me to get done in the weeks to come.
